Brussels: The European Union's top diplomat has issued a warning against potential US military involvement in the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, highlighting the risk of a broader regional conflict.
According to Emirates News Agency, Kaja Kallas, the EU's most senior foreign policy official, addressed reporters following a video call with EU foreign ministers. She emphasized that while it is essential to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, diplomacy should be the preferred approach over military force. Kallas remarked, "When it comes to the United States getting involved, then it will definitely drag the region into broader conflict. This is in nobody's interest."
Kallas also shared the details of her conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, noting his agreement that it is not in the US's interest to be entangled in the conflict. The EU has been reaching out to both Iran and Israel in an effort to de-escalate the tensions, as maintaining regional stability is a shared priority, Kallas stated.
Additionally, Kallas proposed that the EU should consider reducing the G-7 oil-price cap from $60 to $45 per barrel, a move she deems necessary given the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
