Dubai: Flydubai has officially commenced construction on its new Aircraft Maintenance Centre at Dubai South. The multimillion-dollar facility, projected to be completed by the final quarter of 2026, aims to provide an enhanced level of control and reduce maintenance turnaround times for the airline's expanding fleet.
According to Emirates News Agency, the expansive 32,600 square metre centre will feature an aircraft hangar, support workshops, and office buildings. The establishment of the Aircraft Maintenance Centre highlights flydubai's commitment to bolstering its internal capabilities, reflecting the airline's growth as it continues to expand its fleet and network.
The groundbreaking ceremony saw the presence of a senior delegation led by Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South. He was joined by Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of flydubai, along with representatives from the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH).
Khalifa Al Zaffin remarked on the occasion, 'This facility reinforces our commitment to supporting the aviation sector through state-of-the-art infrastructure and to further positioning Dubai as a leading global hub for aviation.'
Ghaith Al Ghaith commented, 'This is a strategic step towards supporting our growing maintenance requirement and capacity as we take delivery of more aircraft, and reaffirms our long-term commitment to innovation, operational efficiency and supporting Dubai's position as a global leader in aviation and business excellence.'
The carrier has signed an agreement with MBRAH for its first purpose-built Aircraft Maintenance Centre at the 2023 Dubai Airshow. Situated in Dubai South, the district offers a comprehensive aviation and logistics ecosystem, making it an ideal location for the carrier's facility. The maintenance centre will be located near Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), which is set to become the world's largest airport upon completion.
The new maintenance centre will accommodate flydubai's growing team of over 600 skilled engineers working in Line Maintenance, Technical Services, Materials, and Workshops, all dedicated to ensuring the safety and airworthiness of the airline's fleet.
