Global Tech Leaders Unite to Launch ‘Stargate UAE’ AI Infrastructure

Abu Dhabi: In the presence of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a groundbreaking partnership was announced today involving G42, OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group, and Cisco to establish Stargate UAE. This next-generation AI infrastructure cluster will be located at the newly founded 5-gigawatt UAE-US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi.

According to Emirates News Agency, the launch ceremony was attended by several key figures, including H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, among others. Stargate UAE will feature a 1-gigawatt compute cluster built by G42 and operated by OpenAI and Oracle, with contributions from Cisco and SoftBank Group. NVIDIA will provide its cutting-edge NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GB300 systems for the facility.

The new infrastructure aims to drive advancements across industries like healthcare, energy, finance, and transportation, promoting economic growth and national development. The UAE-US AI Campus, which will host Stargate UAE, builds on the 'US-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership,' a framework established by the two governments to enhance cooperation on AI technologies.

Spanning 10 square miles, the AI campus will offer 5 gigawatts of data centre capacity, powered by a mix of nuclear, solar, and natural gas to reduce carbon emissions. It will also feature a science park dedicated to innovation and sustainable development. G42's Group CEO Peng Xiao emphasized the initiative as a bridge rooted in trust and ambition, aiming to bring AI benefits worldwide.

OpenAI's Co-founder and CEO Sam Altman remarked on the significance of establishing the Stargate in the UAE as part of their global initiative. Oracle's Larry Ellison highlighted the collaboration as a new standard for digital sovereignty. NVIDIA's Jensen Huang noted the transformative potential of AI, while SoftBank's Masayoshi Son and Cisco's Chuck Robbins expressed pride in contributing to the UAE's ambitious AI vision.
