Sharjah: Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Head of the Sharjah Creative Quarter (SCQ), has announced the establishment of the 'Sharjah Design Council'. This initiative will be followed by the launch of 'Sharjah Design Days', a specialized platform aimed at uniting designers, creatives, and specialists globally to enhance the design ecosystem and bolster its regional and global presence.
According to Emirates News Agency, the decision aligns with SCQ's vision of supporting creative industries by attracting talent, brands, and modern practices within the design field. The Sharjah Design Council's primary goal is to advance the design ecosystem in the emirate through specialized initiatives and programs. These efforts aim to create a sustainable creative environment, reinforce Sharjah's status as a leading regional hub in design, and build strong regional and international partnerships in design-related areas.
The council's responsibilities include providing educational and training platforms to support both emerging and professional designers while fostering innovation and creative production within the sector. It will also focus on formulating and developing strategies and policies related to the design sector, overseeing the implementation of programs and initiatives, organizing specialized exhibitions, showcases, and events, and launching sustainable initiatives in prototype design and manufacturing. These efforts will further strengthen Sharjah's position as a leading regional hub for cultural industries.
