IMO to Begin Evacuation of 11,000 Stranded Seafarers in Strait of Hormuz

London: The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) announced a plan to evacuate 11,000 seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation aims to address the urgent need to safely relocate the stranded crew members.

According to Emirates News Agency, the London-based organisation stated that the evacuation will be a large-scale effort conducted in collaboration with the countries involved. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez highlighted that the operation would be coordinated with Iran, the Sultanate of Oman, all regional countries, the United States, and maritime industry stakeholders.

Dominguez further explained that the necessary safety guarantees have been obtained, and navigational conditions have been thoroughly verified to ensure the safe execution of the operation. The involvement of multiple countries and organisations underscores the complexity and significance of this humanitarian effort.
