The Hague: Ameirah AlHefeiti, UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, has stressed that after more than two years into the humanitarian catastrophe endured by the Sudanese people, it is time for the killing to stop immediately, for the guns to fall silent, and for the political and military exploitation of humanitarian aid to end.
According to Emirates News Agency, in an interview today in The Hague, AlHefeiti emphasized the urgent need for the international community to take swift and decisive action to end the suffering in Sudan and to create conditions for a genuine path towards peace. She stated that the international community must shoulder its responsibilities and pressure both parties to the conflict to accept diplomatic solutions, urging the Sudanese Armed Forces to stop evading their obligations to peace.
AlHefeiti highlighted the deceptive tactics used by the Sudanese Armed Forces to shift blame for the destruction and tragedies they have caused, warning that such actions could lead to Sudan's disintegration into a failed state. She affirmed the UAE's unwavering stance from the beginning of the conflict, advocating for an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire, and encouraging negotiations reflecting the will of the Sudanese people for a political solution.
In response to a question on the UAE's humanitarian aid to Sudan, AlHefeiti reaffirmed the UAE's long-standing commitment, rooted in fraternal, ethical, and Arab values, to support the Sudanese people. She noted that the UAE has provided over US$3.5 billion in aid over the past decade, with more than $600 million in humanitarian assistance since the conflict began, including a $200 million pledge during the High-Level Humanitarian Conference for Sudan in Addis Ababa in February 2025.
Addressing the Sudanese Armed Forces' attempts to distort the UAE's humanitarian role, AlHefeiti asserted that the UAE remains focused on its mission to alleviate the humanitarian disaster in Sudan. She concluded by reiterating the UAE's steadfast support for the Sudanese people until peace is restored and Sudan regains its status as a stable and sovereign nation contributing to regional and international stability.
