Iraq’s Population Surpasses 45 Million Mark: Preliminary Census Insights.

Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced the preliminary results of the nationwide census during a press conference on Monday, revealing significant demographic insights about the country’s population. “Iraq’s total population has exceeded 45.407 million people,” al-Sudani announced, adding that “70.3% of the population lives in urban areas, while 29.7% resides in rural areas.”

According to Emirates News Agency, the census marks a crucial milestone for Iraq, providing the first comprehensive population data since 1997. The results are particularly significant for policy-making, resource allocation, and development planning. The high percentage of the population under 15 years (36.1%) indicates a young demographic structure, while the substantial urban population (70.3%) reflects ongoing urbanization trends.

The Prime Minister reported that the total number of households in Iraq has reached 7,898,588, with an average household size of 5.3 persons. The gender distribution shows a nearly
even split, with males numbering 22,784,062 (50.1% of the population) and females totaling 22,623,833 (49.8% of the population).

These findings will be essential for both federal and regional governments in planning future services, infrastructure, and economic development programs.
