IV International Autism Conference Continues in Abu Dhabi

Abu dhabi: The IV International Autism Conference 2026 continued its activities on Sunday with a series of sessions and workshops highlighting the latest research and scientific studies on autism.

According to Emirates News Agency, the conference featured sessions organized by the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination Youth Council, along with expert-led workshops. These events attracted university students and parents, facilitating discussions where families shared their experiences in raising children with autism spectrum disorder.

One notable session, 'Unlimited Potential: Empowering People of Determination in the Labour Market,' emphasized that investing in individuals with determination is an investment in human potential. The session highlighted the organisation's Level 2 Employment Readiness Programme, launched in 2023, which has enrolled 578 participants over two years and comprises 20 training modules designed to prepare individuals for the workforce.

The programme also included a workshop conducted by Dr. Hamdan Hamdan, Assistant Professor at Khalifa University, who discussed newly identified genes linked to autism. He noted that his research team is working to determine these genes at the neural cell level, with plans to publish their findings in medical journals.

Additional lectures focused on supporting families in navigating the challenges of raising children with autism, drawing strong attendance from the community.

Dr. Fidaa Youssef Ahmad Theyab, a mother of a child with Angelman syndrome, delivered a lecture titled 'Journey of Hope.' She aimed to raise awareness among parents about effective ways to support their children and promote acceptance, inclusion, and community understanding. Her personal experiences inspired her to author a book documenting her journey.
