Kuwait City: The Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat) has reported that Kuwait has attained complete achievement rates in several Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators.
According to Emirates News Agency, the country has recorded 100 percent achievement in crucial areas such as births under medical supervision, access to essential services, and the provision of safely managed drinking water and electricity.
Kuwait has also ensured full registration of births for children under five, complete adoption of national disaster risk reduction strategies, and a 100 percent treatment rate for hazardous waste. These indicators highlight Kuwait's dedication to its Vision 2035, aiming to transform the nation into a global financial and investment hub driven by the private sector, enhanced human development, and improved production efficiency.
The GCC Statistical Centre also reveals data on Kuwait's economic performance, noting that total government revenue is 32.4 percent of GDP, with the labour share at 22.9 percent. In 2023, government expenditure reached approximately US$85.543 billion. The non-oil sector contributed 48.8 percent to GDP, and the GDP per capita stood at US$36,700. The inflation rate was recorded at 3.6 percent.
Globally, Kuwait ranks highest in the ICT Development Index 2023 and 5G Technology Leadership 2023. It holds the third position in the 2024 Tax Policy Index and is eleventh in the 2024 Public Finance Index. Regionally, Kuwait ranks fourth in the Arab world in both the 2023 Investment Climate Index and the 2023 Global Knowledge Index and fifth in the 2024 Competitiveness Index.
Kuwait is actively aligning its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Vision 2035, which encompasses 164 development projects and 30 strategic initiatives. These efforts aim to establish a special international economic zone, enhance capabilities, create sustainable residential areas, and promote a dynamic private sector alongside public-sector privatisation.
The nation is implementing five clean energy projects, including the Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex. In education, Abdullah Al-Salem University has been inaugurated, featuring research centres focused on cybersecurity, digital transformation, data science, and sustainability.
The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) continues to advance scientific research with centres dedicated to petroleum, water, life sciences, and energy. Furthermore, Kuwait is developing five sustainable health cities, with projects like the Doha Seawater Desalination Plant and the Al-Wafra Power Plant, which are pivotal to economic diversification and sustainability.
These initiatives underscore Kuwait's commitment to a sustainable and technologically advanced future, aligned with its long-term goals of economic diversification and sustainable development.
