Abu Dhabi: EDGE, a global leader in advanced technology and defense, alongside Fincantieri, a prominent group in high-complexity shipbuilding, has announced that their Abu Dhabi-based joint venture, MAESTRAL, will be awarded a significant ‘In-Service Support Strategic Partnership Project’ (ISS) for the entire UAE Navy fleet by Tawazun Council.
According to Emirates News Agency, Tawazun Council, an independent government entity collaborating with the UAE’s Ministry of Defence and security agencies, has valued the agreement at approximately 500 million euros over a five-year span. The announcement of the contract award was marked by the presence of several key figures, including Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, Rodrigo Torres, CFO of EDGE Group, Biagio Mazzotta, Chairman of Fincantieri, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, and Dario Deste, General Manager of Fincantieri’s Naval Vessels Division.
MAESTRAL will function as the Industrial Strategic Partner, responsible for overseeing comprehensive maintenance management of the UAE Navy, aligning with key operational and logistic needs, and aiding the Navy’s transformation journey over the next five years.
Hamad Al Marar emphasized that this award highlights the trust in MAESTRAL’s capabilities by their major customer and stakeholders globally. He expressed confidence that the collaboration with Fincantieri will leverage MAESTRAL’s resources and experience to deliver superior maritime solutions and lifecycle maintenance services, ensuring commercial success for all involved parties.
Pierroberto Folgiero remarked on the contract as a pivotal step in Fincantieri’s regional growth, reinforcing their commitment to industrial partnerships that deliver excellence. He highlighted the shared vision and synergy between Fincantieri and EDGE through MAESTRAL, expressing pride in partnering with the UAE Navy to provide sustained support and world-class maintenance services for modern naval operations.
