Paris: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar), the UAE’s clean energy leader, TotalEnergies, and EPointZero, the decarbonisation arm of 2PointZero, have signed a Framework for Action (FFA) agreement aimed at driving access to clean energy in emerging markets and developing economies in Africa and Asia.
According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement will see Masdar and TotalEnergies enhance their cooperation to provide reliable and sustainable electricity to local communities in Africa and support the continent’s long-term energy systems transformation. Additionally, the companies will jointly explore new clean energy opportunities in Southeast Asia. TotalEnergies and EPointZero will also look into partnership opportunities to support India’s clean energy goals, focusing on solar, wind, and energy storage to aid in the country’s decarbonisation efforts.
The FFA signing was attended by UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyann©, and 2PointZero Group CEO Mariam Almheiri. The agreement was formalized at the third plenary meeting of the UAE-France High-Level Business Council in Paris on February 16, with signatures from Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar; St©phane Michel, TotalEnergies President for Gas Renewable and Power; and Peter Abraam, Chief Strategy and Growth Officer of IHC.
This collaboration brings together these major companies under the Council’s umbrella to expand their capabilities and improve access to clean energy in Africa and Asia’s emerging markets and developing economies. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, emphasized the importance of the UAE-France bilateral relationship and the shared commitment to empowering local communities, driving socio-economic growth, and advancing global energy transformation.
St©phane Michel of TotalEnergies highlighted the company’s longstanding partnership with Abu Dhabi, now extended to renewable energy development in Asia and Africa. He noted that the combined strengths and expertise of Masdar, EPointZero, and TotalEnergies would accelerate growth and investment quality in fast-developing markets where renewable energies are crucial for energy transition.
Mariam Almheiri of 2PointZero expressed that the partnership deepens UAE-France ties and supports the global energy transition. By leveraging the expertise of the three companies, the collaboration will expand clean energy access, accelerate decarbonization, and drive economic growth across India, Africa, and Asia.
The UAE-France High-Level Business Council, which held its first plenary meeting in January 2023, acts as a catalyst for innovation and collaboration, reinforcing the UAE and France’s joint commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon future. The two nations have maintained a Comprehensive Strategic Energy Partnership since 2022 and launched the UAE-France Bilateral Climate Investment Platform last year.
