Abu dhabi: The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has launched its NextGen Summer Program, a week-long initiative designed to introduce high school students in Grades 10-12 to the fast-evolving world of artificial intelligence, innovation, and emerging technologies.

According to Emirates News Agency, the program, hosted at the MBZUAI campus in Abu Dhabi, brings together 38 high-performing students from across the UAE for hands-on workshops and expert-led sessions. The selection process was highly competitive, with the students chosen from over 150 applications, highlighting the program's rigorous standards. Participants will engage in projects that apply real-world AI solutions in sectors like healthcare, mobility, climate, and the creative industries.

The program emphasizes real-world relevance, with students working under the guidance of MBZUAI faculty and industry mentors. They will utilize platforms such as Python, Google Colab, and Kaggle to handle real datasets and delve into the design, testing, and evaluation of AI models. Additionally, sessions on AI ethics, bias, and future career opportunities will underline the importance of using technology responsibly and being aware of its societal impacts.

Rawdha AlMeraikhi, Director of Outreach at MBZUAI, stated that the program aims to spark curiosity, build skills, and provide students with a realistic understanding of AI's future potential. The initiative is viewed as a unique opportunity for students to gain confidence and explore their potential in the impactful field of AI, with the possibility of becoming future leaders and MBZUAI students.

The NextGen Summer Program supports the UAE's broader vision to enhance national capabilities in advanced technology, aligning with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. This strategy seeks to position the country as a global leader in AI innovation and adoption. Furthermore, it complements Abu Dhabi's goal to become the world's first fully AI-native government by 2027.
