Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Trkiye, the League of Arab States, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have issued a joint statement condemning the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a declaration to impose sovereignty over the occupied West Bank. The group considers this move a violation of international law and a breach of UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 242, 338, and 2334, which invalidate measures legitimizing occupation and settlement activities in territories occupied since 1967.
According to Emirates News Agency, the countries involved assert that Israel holds no sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They stress that this unilateral action by Israel lacks legal standing and cannot change the legal status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly East Jerusalem. The statement highlights that such actions by Israel exacerbate tensions in the region, worsened by recent Israeli aggression in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian issues.
The joint statement calls on the international community, including the UN Security Council, to take immediate steps to stop Israel’s policies, which aim to impose control by force and undermine peace prospects and the two-state solution.
The countries reaffirm their commitment to the two-state solution, adhering to international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. They advocate for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
