DUBAI, The Ministry of Culture and Youth has participated at Creative Career Days Festival organised by Art Jameel over two days at Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai. The event promoted the importance of cultural and creative disciplines and their role in supporting sustainable development, while also encouraging students to benefit from the scholarship programme offered by the Ministry of Education in the cultural and creative disciplines.
One of the most prominent annual festivals dedicated to exploring careers in the culture and arts sector, Career Days includes interactive activities to inspire young attendees to discover a wide range of exciting opportunities in the creative sector.
The free event which was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Youth, included a series of workshops that enhance the competencies and skill of the participants in the fields of CV writing techniques, personal interviews, as well as inspiring dialogue sessions that host several creative personalities from the UAE and abroad. It also included behind-the-scenes tours of museums and exhibitions that give participants a broad view of possible careers in these fields and other available options.
Targeting students aged 14 to 24 years old, the event provided an opportunity to find careers in the arts, and benefit from Creative UAE strategy. The nation-wide strategy launched last year aims to enhance the contribution of the cultural and creative industries in the nation’s sustainable development and position it as a global creative hub by supporting a creative ecosystem based on the pillars of sustainability, quality and efficiency.
The Ministry promotes this vision by organising a series of introductory meetings from time to time that highlight the programme and its objectives, the importance of reaching national competencies in these fields and offering scholarships. It also highlights the success stories for scholarship students, and the opportunities available to pursue these disciplines in the public and private sectors. The students are also urged to become ambassadors to promote the programme in the future.
At the festival, the Ministry of Culture and Youth introduced Creative UAE scholarships offered by the Ministry of Education for students to pursue courses in the cultural and creative industries (CCI) from prestigious international universities. The students were also introduced to promising opportunities in the CCI sector, one of the fastest growing sectors in the world today.
During the open day for youth and their families, the attendees were introduced to potential jobs in the sector. Also, top schools in cooperation with government and private entities, participated to provide a suitable environment for investing in Emirati energies and talents in various cultural and creative fields.
In a statement, Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Minister of Culture and Youth, said, “The Ministry of Culture and Youth is working to achieve the objectives of the Creative UAE strategy through partnerships with the public and private sector. Our participation in Art Jameel in partnership with the Ministry of Education highlights the importance of attracting and supporting Emirati talent and encouraging them to study creative disciplines, to meet the growing demand of labour market for qualified national talents.”
“The Ministry is keen to support the cultural and creative fields to strengthen cooperation with various local and international academic institutions in order to achieve the vision of the country and its future course for community development. We acknowledge the importance of the growth of the CCI and encourage investment in fostering creative talents and skills to boost the socioeconomic status of the country. This would contribute effectively to upgrading the creative economy, which is a pillar of growth and development,” he added.
