Mohammed bin Rashid Attends Unveiling of Dubai’s New Cultural Landmark DUMA

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the unveiling of the Dubai Museum of Art (DUMA), a project developed by the Al-Futtaim Group, set to become a significant architectural and cultural landmark. His Highness reviewed the museum’s distinctive designs by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, developed to enrich Dubai’s creative landscape.

According to Emirates News Agency, His Highness emphasized the importance of culture and art, stating they are the soul of a city and reflect its vision. The Dubai Museum of Art aims to be a beacon for the city, enhancing its arts scene and strengthening its global cultural status. His Highness highlighted Dubai’s role as a destination for creatives worldwide, working to accelerate the growth of the creative economy.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Omar Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of Al-Futtaim Group. The Dubai Museum of Art will be located on the waters of Dubai Creek, featuring unique architectural designs by Tadao Ando.

The museum’s design integrates local culture with modern architecture, focusing on symbolic meaning and human-centred dimensions. Rising five stories above the water, it will include adaptable galleries, a restaurant, and a VIP lounge. Beyond exhibitions, it will host artist talks, panel discussions, and educational programmes.

Omar Al Futtaim expressed pride in the collaboration with Tadao Ando, highlighting the museum as a cultural statement reflecting Dubai’s openness to creativity. The architecture is inspired by the sea and the pearl, with a central cylindrical opening allowing natural light to enhance the space.

The museum will be a platform for artists worldwide, offering artistic and human experiences that foster cultural ties. Its collection will showcase modern and contemporary art, curated to reflect Dubai’s spirit. The museum will also include a library and study rooms, with training programmes to nurture future creative leaders.

Tadao Ando, known for his minimalist concrete structures, designed the museum with an emphasis on integrating architecture with the environment. Among his notable works are Japan’s Chichu Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in Texas, USA.
