Mohammed bin Rashid Reviews ‘Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030’ Launched by Dubai Municipality at WGS 2026

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE, reviewed the 2030 Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap, launched by Dubai Municipality during the World Government Summit. This initiative is part of a strategic vision to create a balanced urban ecosystem through projects valued at over AED4 billion, aimed at reinforcing Dubai's status as a sustainable global city that leverages nature for human wellbeing.

According to Emirates News Agency, the roadmap marks a vital step in Dubai's future city-making strategy, enhancing its leadership in urban sustainability and quality of life. It aims to address the evolving needs of residents, visitors, and tourists by integrating nature as a key component of the city's growth and liveability.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed was joined by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee; H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority; and other dignitaries including Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Government Summit.

The roadmap embeds sustainability into urban planning, promoting a balanced environment through public facilities, parks, beaches, and biodiversity conservation. It aims to improve public health and create a more human-centric city.

Dubai Municipality's approach focuses on transforming infrastructure into enablers of quality life and sustainability, aiming to redefine the urban experience by integrating nature into infrastructure and enhancing access to recreational spaces.

The roadmap aims to plant 1.5 million trees over five years, implement over 45 landscaping projects, and add 120 parks covering 3 million square meters. It includes 200 sports spaces integrated into green networks, in line with the Public Parks and Greenery Strategy and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Dubai's beaches and waterfronts will be revitalized through 15 development projects, introducing new beach destinations and enhancing public access to natural environments.

Dubai Municipality plans to increase beach facilities by 400%, expand public beach capacity by 150%, and extend beachfront tracks by 285%, aligning with the public beach development master plan.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized Dubai's commitment to urban sustainability and its global leadership in designing future cities. He highlighted the roadmap's role in creating a vibrant, attractive, and liveable city.

The roadmap supports sustainable development goals, enhances climate resilience, and fosters a healthy urban environment, reinforcing Dubai's vision to be the best city in the world to live and work.
