Dubai: The Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), in collaboration with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the World Governments Summit (WGS), has launched the Arab Region SDG Index and Dashboards 2026. The initiative provides policymakers with robust, data-driven tools to translate development plans into actionable financing, while advancing sustainable development and strengthening sustainable finance across the region.
According to Emirates News Agency, the launch follows a strategic partnership that combines SDSN's global expertise with MBRSG's regional research. It offers a practical framework that links national and regional development priorities to actionable financing, reflecting a forward-looking approach to integrated and sustainable policies aimed at accelerating SDG achievement across the Arab region.
The 2026 edition of the Index provides an updated analysis of Arab countries' performance in achieving the SDGs, highlighting regional disparities and challenges affecting progress. It also identifies opportunities to strengthen sustainable development financing pathways across the region and notes that the region's overall average performance is approximately 60 points out of 100.
The Index shows progress in areas such as the expansion of digital infrastructure, which has contributed to improvements in SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and better access to basic water and electricity services in most Arab countries.
Dr. Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of MBRSG, remarked that the launch is a significant milestone in knowledge development, providing policymakers with evidence-based data and analysis to aid in translating national priorities into actionable pathways that promote the achievement of SDGs. He emphasized the strategic partnership between MBRSG and SDSN in supporting sustainable development pathways and strengthening their financing.
Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, President of SDSN, commended the Arab region's efforts to achieve the SDGs, noting the importance of solutions at both national and regional levels. He expressed a commitment to working with the region on these challenges and building on the SDG planning and implementation underway.
The Arab Region SDG Index and Dashboards 2026 serves as an essential tool for policymakers and stakeholders, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the role of knowledge in public policy formulation and supporting regional initiatives for inclusive and sustainable development throughout the Arab world.
