Abu dhabi: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, has launched the ‘Tolerance and Coexistence in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’ initiative. This initiative aims to align with the UAE’s leadership vision by fully harnessing present opportunities and anticipating future expectations, ensuring the nation’s meaningful contribution to global progress.
According to Emirates News Agency, the announcement was made during a press conference organized by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended by Afra Al Sabri, Director-General of the Ministry, and several media leaders. The conference highlighted the Ministry’s future plans and its adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology across all its initiatives throughout the year.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak stated that this initiative is part of the Ministry’s effort to strengthen the UAE’s leading position in AI, a significant force shaping life globally. The initiative seeks to promote tolerance and coexistence at individual, community, national, and global levels.
At the individual level, AI tools will facilitate communication, enable collaborative work, and offer opportunities for continuous learning. At the community level, AI will enhance institutional efficiency and effectiveness, encouraging joint initiatives beneficial to society and the environment.
On a national scale, AI technologies will underscore the connection between tolerance and development, strengthening ties with expatriate communities, institutions, religious leaders, and civil society. Globally, AI will allow the UAE to present its model of tolerance and coexistence, fostering international cooperation and coordination.
The Ministry is guided by a clear understanding of the link between tolerance and AI, emphasizing the preservation of human values and ethical principles. Sheikh Nahyan highlighted the importance of using AI ethically, safeguarding rights, and upholding moral conduct.
Several principles will guide the initiative:
1. Ethical and Inclusive Use: The Ministry will model respectful and inclusive AI, free from cultural or ideological bias.
2. Strengthening Human Connection: AI applications will focus on mutual understanding and collective action.
3. Innovation and Protection: Creative use of AI will build tools that serve the Ministry’s goals and protect society.
4. Data and Insight Generation: AI will analyze data to inform positive action.
5. Digital Companions: Some AI applications will function as digital companions, guiding and encouraging constructive behavior.
6. Expanding Reach and Impact: AI will help the Ministry reach larger audiences and collaborate globally.
7. Strong Community Partnerships: Collaborations with universities, civil society, and tech companies will develop meaningful AI tools.
The Ministry plans to develop twelve AI applications to address various areas of its work, supporting continuous learning, inspiring innovation, celebrating culture and heritage, and building advanced data systems.
Sheikh Nahyan concluded by affirming the Ministry’s commitment to using AI as a force for peace and harmony, enhancing institutional efficiency, and serving society and humanity in the UAE.
