Abu dhabi: H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, has honoured 17 runners, including UAE nationals and residents, for their outstanding participation in the Boston and London marathons held last April. Both marathons are recognized globally as prestigious and historic events in the world of long-distance running.
According to Emirates News Agency, during his meeting with the runners, H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed praised the determination shown by the participants. He emphasized that representing the UAE at such international events is a testament to the development of community sports within the nation and reflects the spirit of challenge and ambition among both Emiratis and residents.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed affirmed that the Abu Dhabi Sports Council prioritizes supporting and empowering athletes. This aligns with the country's leadership vision to improve the quality of life and foster a culture of sports and physical activity. He highlighted the achievements of athletes in international competitions as a source of pride and an inspiration for future generations.

The Boston Marathon, which took place on 20th April 2026, attracted over 30,000 elite athletes and amateurs from across the globe. It is the oldest annual marathon and one of the most prominent international running races. The London Marathon, held on 26th April 2026, saw participation from more than 50,000 runners and drew a significant public turnout, maintaining its reputation as one of the largest and most competitive marathon races in the world.
