OIC Secretary-General Meets with Uzbekistan Senate Chairperson

Tashkent, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha met here yesterday with Uzbekistan Senate Chairperson Tanzila Norbaeva, with whom he discussed a range of regional and international issues on the OIC agenda.The Secretary-General commended Uzbekistan's rich cultural and scientific heritage, and stressed that the OIC City of Tourism Award recognizes the Uzbek government's efforts in developing the tourism sector and showcasing its historical significance.Taha also talked about efforts to halt Israeli aggression in Gaza Strip, including the city of Rafah, and emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and the provision of adequate and sustainable humanitarian aid throughout the strip.He also praised Uzbekistan's role in promoting peace, security, stability, and social and economic development, as well as its humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.The discussions also covered OIC initiatives to combat Islamophobia and anti-Muslim sentiments, and em phasized the need to promote the true principles of Islam, such as peace and tolerance, through media, education, and dialogue.The two officials also discussed cultural cooperation, with focus on preserving the rich cultural heritage of OIC member states through, among others, publishing works and organizing exhibitions.Source: Saudi Press Agency
