Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh discussed today with Norways Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Hilde Haraldstad preparation for the upcoming meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) of donor countries, to be held in New York this month, in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly session.
During the meeting, Shtayyeh said that the AHLC meeting must convey a strong and direct political message in protection of the two-state solution, which Israel has been destroying through its measures.
The Palestinian Premier affirmed that the meeting must also condemn Israeli measures and provide a vision for the future of the two-state solution under extremist Israeli governments.
He added that the AHLC meeting must produce serious and effective results, in addition to putting pressure on Israel to halt all its unilateral measures, by stopping its incursions into Palestinian areas, killings and arrests of Palestinians, land confiscations for the benefit of settlement expansion, demolition of homes, and unfair deductions from clearance funds.
Shtayyeh called on Norway to take initiative in leading a serious global effort to recognize the State of Palestine, as well as to recognize its right to self-determination and sovereignty. He added that in light of the lack of any serious peace initiatives, the Arab Peace Initiative must be upheld.
The Palestinian Prime Minister emphasized the need to mobilize financial support and resume international aid to Palestine, which decreased in the past decade from 30 to 1 percent of gross domestic product, as well as gathering support for the implementation of the reform agenda and the national development plan for the coming years.
