Nairobi: President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, hosted H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, marking a significant moment in the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations. The visit, part of the UAE diplomat’s working tour, saw both leaders engage in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to Emirates News Agency, during the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah conveyed greetings from UAE leaders, including President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and expressed their best wishes for Kenya’s continued growth. President Ruto reciprocated with well-wishes for the UAE’s prosperity. The discussions focused on boosting economic, trade, investment, tourism, and energy sector collaborations to support the developmental objectives of both countries.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the longstanding historical relations between the UAE and Kenya, noting their growth over decades. He emphasized the UAE’s commitment to fostering prosperous relationships with Kenya and other African nations, underscoring the importance of developmental cooperation. Sheikh Abdullah expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and lauded Kenya’s progress in various development sectors.
The visit was marked by the signing of seven memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and cooperation agreements, underscoring the depth of the bilateral partnership. Key agreements included a MoU on military cooperation, a transport cooperation agreement, and a bilateral framework for economic development. Additional agreements focused on mutual administrative assistance in customs, the establishment of a UAE-Kenya Joint Business Council, energy cooperation, and a partnership between Etihad Rail and Kenya Railways.
These agreements were signed by notable representatives from both countries, including Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Roselinda Soipan Tuya, and others, reflecting a comprehensive approach to enhancing the UAE-Kenya relationship.
