RAK Ruler Highlights Role of Science in Global Challenges at 17th International Workshop on Advanced Materials

Ras al khaimah: H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, addressed the significance of science and research in tackling global challenges and fostering a sustainable future during the opening of the 17th International Workshop on Advanced Materials (IWAM).

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Saud emphasized the essential role of science in humanity's progress and resilience, urging the investment in scientific research as a necessity for the future. He stated that Ras Al Khaimah is committed to empowering people and institutions to enhance the quality of life and ensure accessible opportunities for all.

H.H. Sheikh Saud highlighted Ras Al Khaimah's dedication to advancing scientific research and innovation through IWAM, aligning with the national vision of investing in human potential and expanding international research partnerships. He noted the importance of materials science in sustainable development, impacting sectors like energy, health, and technology.

Commending the Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAKCAM) for organizing IWAM, H.H. Sheikh Saud acknowledged its role in fostering research partnerships and global expertise. Now in its 17th year, IWAM gathers scientists, academics, and Nobel laureates for discussions on the future of advanced materials.

Local participation from UAE universities has increased, with 128 professors and students, including 18 from the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, joining this year's forum. Two sessions for UAE students will allow them to engage with scientists and participate in a competition organized by the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge.

Professor Sir Tony Cheetham, Chairman of RAKCAM, praised IWAM as a platform for exploring the potential of advanced materials in future technologies. He acknowledged the support of H.H. Sheikh Saud and highlighted the rapid advancements in materials applications, from mobile phones to water purification.

IWAM is sponsored by Stevin Rock, Ras Al Khaimah's major quarrying company, contributing to the event's success by supporting scientific dialogue and collaboration.
