Reem Al Hashimy at 1 Billion Followers Summit: Creators Can Drive Humanitarian Action

Dubai: Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized the critical role of content creators in enhancing global humanitarian efforts by transforming crises from mere numbers into compelling human stories that maintain focus and inspire effective, lasting action.

According to Emirates News Agency, Al Hashimy shared these insights during a fireside chat at the 1 Billion Followers Summit 2026 in Dubai. The session, titled 'Taking Aid to the World: Turning Attention into Action,' addressed the challenge of not only delivering aid amid escalating crises and conflicts but also engaging the world with the human realities of those affected.

Al Hashimy stated, 'The crises we talk about are not theoretical. People need to see this reality, and creators can shed light on suffering in a way that makes it impossible to ignore.' She stressed that humanitarian response requires partners who keep the focus on people by bridging the gap between data and lived experiences, delivering responsible and credible content that reflects facts and respects the sensitivities of affected communities.

She also highlighted the UAE's humanitarian efforts, which focus on sustaining access and activating practical mechanisms like field hospitals, bakeries, evacuation of the injured, and providing medical treatment in the UAE. Al Hashimy noted that UAE assistance to Gaza has exceeded US$2 billion, underscoring the nation's commitment to supporting and protecting vulnerable populations during crises.

Al Hashimy further emphasized the urgency of the humanitarian situation in Sudan, which lacks sufficient coverage. She stressed the importance of building coordinated partnerships among governments, multilateral organizations, the private sector, and content creators to expand attention and mobilize support for affected communities.

Addressing the sensitivity of discussing crises from a humanitarian perspective, she remarked, 'When we talk about human suffering, there is nothing political about that. Focusing on the humanitarian reality simply shows what life looks like on the other side.'

The 1 Billion Followers Summit 2026 is organized by the UAE Government Media Office and is being held from 9th to 11th January at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and the Museum of the Future, under the theme 'Content for Good.'
