Riyadh, The Roads General Authority (RGA) has announced the use of modern equipment to scrape and asphalt roads leading to the Holy Sites for the first time during the1445H Hajj season. This is part of the RGA's efforts to adopt the latest technologies in the road sector and achieve its strategy of encouraging innovation to improve road quality.According to RGA, the equipment scrapes the asphalt, recycles it, and paves it in the exact location, using water to treat the asphalt instead of heat, which contributes to a 23% energy consumption savings and reduces carbon dioxide emissions. The project aims to preserve the environment, reduce carbon emissions, ensure the sustainability of natural resources, enhance efficiency, save time and effort, expedite the road treatment process, and improve road safety. The process consists of four stages: scraping 5-10 cm of the top layer of the asphalt, mixing the scraped asphalt with other recycling materials, placing the recycled asphalt, leveling it on the road, and co mpacting it to be ready for use.RGA aims to expand the use of the latest equipment and technologies that contribute to achieving the road sector strategy, which focuses on safety and quality. The strategy also aims to raise the road quality index in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the sixth globally and reduce the number of deaths to less than 5 cases per 100,000 people by 2030.Source: Saudi Press Agency
