Rock360 Unveils AI-Driven System for Rock Cuttings Analysis at ADIPEC 2026

Abu Dhabi:Rock360 has introduced a cutting-edge system designed to analyze rock cuttings from oil and gas wells at ADIPEC 2026. The system integrates hyperspectral imaging, geochemical analysis, and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the characterization of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Notably, this innovative technology includes components protected by US patents.

According to Emirates News Agency, the system was developed under the leadership of Engineer Ahmed Hani Al Gamal, an earth sciences researcher at Stanford University. It employs hyperspectral imaging, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and drilling data to create multidimensional profiles of rock samples, offering more detailed information than individual instruments alone.

The strategic initiatives of Rock360, spearheaded by CEO Nizar Shalabi, emphasize training AI and machine learning models with reference data to predict properties of new samples. Preliminary findings indicate an improvement in estimation accuracy. Furthermore, research is underway to explore internal rock structures using computed tomography (CT).

Additionally, the system features automated sample collection and analysis technologies, aiming to surpass traditional measurement methods by modeling complex relationships among mineral composition, chemical properties, and physical characteristics to enhance geological assessments.
