Sharjah: Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Director of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), welcomed a delegation from the UAE Space Agency with the goal of strengthening cooperation in space science, engineering, and computing.
According to Emirates News Agency, the visit was organised in collaboration with the University of Sharjah's (UoS) Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, the Sharjah Smart Center for Climate Resilience, and the Research Outreach Department. The visit included a discussion session led by Prof. Al Naimiy and attended by academics and experts from both SAASST and the UAE Space Agency.
The session explored potential collaborations, focusing on activating existing agreements and planning future initiatives to support research and advance the UAE's space vision. Discussions also emphasized academic collaboration by offering internships, facilitating knowledge exchange, and developing programs in line with the UAE's National Space Strategy.
Both parties considered launching applied research projects to advance the UAE's space sector. They also highlighted the importance of supporting students and researchers through national initiatives aimed at empowering young talent and guiding them toward space-related disciplines.
This partnership serves as a model of integration between federal entities and academic institutions, enhancing the nation's readiness for regional and global space initiatives. It aligns with the UAE leadership's goal to establish the country as a global leader in space exploration, science, and technology.
During the visit, SAASST presented an overview of its research and educational facilities, followed by a scientific show at the Sharjah Planetarium titled 'Deen Alqayima.' The delegation also toured several UoS facilities and laboratories, showcasing the latest technologies and research equipment that foster an innovative environment and prepare a new generation of researchers and scientists.
