ABU DHABI: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) and Chairman of the 18th regular meeting of leaders of GCC Shura, Representatives, National, and Ummah Councils, conveyed a strong message on the importance of peace and stability in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. He highlighted the role of the GCC countries as a gateway to global peace and stability, driven by the leadership’s will and the determination of its people.
According to Emirates News Agency, Ghobash made these remarks during his opening speech at the meeting hosted by the FNC in Abu Dhabi. Key attendees included Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Bahrain’s Speaker of the Council of Representatives; Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, Speaker of the Saudi Shura Council; Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council, and Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Omani Shura Council. Additionally, Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, and GCC Secretary Gener
al Jasem, along with several FNC members, were present.
Ghobash shared greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressing hopes for the meeting’s success. He reaffirmed the UAE’s position advocating for an immediate and permanent cessation of the conflict in Gaza and emphasized the UAE’s commitment to providing urgent aid and political support to the Palestinian issue, aiming for the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In his address, Ghobash also reiterated the UAE’s advocacy for a ceasefire in Lebanon and the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. He stressed the importance of supporting Lebanon’s stability, security, and sovereignty.
The meeting underscored the strong connections and shared destiny that unite the GCC states, both at the leadership level and among their people, as emphasized by Ghobash.
