Sharjah: The Department of Agriculture and Livestock in Sharjah (SDAL), in collaboration with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, has launched the “Baba Sultan Healthy Food Ambassadors” programme. This initiative aims to promote healthy eating and raise awareness about the importance of a safe and nutritious diet among community members and school students.
According to Emirates News Agency, this programme is part of the SDAL’s ongoing efforts to establish positive behaviours and practices that encourage healthy eating habits by raising awareness about healthy food options, promoting safe organic food choices, and creating an environment that supports healthy and nutritious options.
The launch event was attended by Dr. Engineer Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, head of the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock (SDAL), Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), Ali Al Hosani, Director of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, along with several depart
ment heads from both entities.
Al Tunaiji commented on the launch, saying, “This programme aligns with Sharjah’s sustainable food security strategy and fulfils the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who considers health as the essence of human life and the foundation of development. We are committed to expanding this programme across the emirate in line with His Highness’s focus on the well-being of his people and the provision of all means necessary for a dignified life for the community.”
Dr. Al Tunaiji emphasized that promoting human health through a balanced diet is a fundamental approach to positively and effectively contributing to the development of society. He noted that the programme supports nutritional awareness in Sharjah schools, which serve as a model for implementing the programme and creating a preventive environment that enhances student health and well-being, thus ensuring a sustainable healthy lifestyle-a priority in Sharj
ah’s projects.
Al Hashimi expressed that the “Baba Sultan Healthy Food Ambassadors” programme is a significant step towards enhancing health awareness among students, aiming to equip them with healthy habits and empower them to make informed dietary choices. “This programme reaffirms our commitment at the Sharjah Private Education Authority to H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi’s vision, which places the health and well-being of our children at the top of our priorities. Through this initiative, we strive to build a school environment that reinforces sustainable healthy living principles,” she added.
In its first phase, the “Baba Sultan Healthy Food Ambassadors” programme includes 21 students and offers various activities aimed at promoting awareness of healthy habits and the importance of balanced nutrition among their peers. It also provides students with the opportunity to learn about sustainable and healthy dietary systems, contributing to the nurturing of a healthy future generation and enha
ncing their understanding of how to positively contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
