Sharjah Institute for Heritage Showcases Cultural Initiatives at Cairo Book Fair


Cairo: The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), led by Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, is actively participating in the Cairo International Book Fair 2025, which takes place from 23rd January to 5th February.



According to Emirates News Agency, the institute is presenting a robust program of cultural discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration with Egyptian institutions in heritage, publishing, and research sectors. A delegation of cultural experts, including Khalid Al Matroushi, Ahmed Al Dah, Aisha Al Hossan, Aisha Ghabesh, Dr Minni Bounama, and Hani Khattab, is representing the institute at the event.



Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam highlighted that this participation aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, focusing on the book as a crucial tool for knowledge exchange and heritage preservation. The institute is showcasing specialized publications on both tangible and intangible heritage, such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, and comprehensive studies, solidifying its role in promoting academic research and cultural preservation. SIH has now surpassed 1001 published titles, underscoring its commitment to documenting Arab cultural identity.



SIH is also involved in several key panel discussions at the fair. “The Future of Cultural Heritage in a Changing World” features Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam alongside other prominent figures like Dr. Ahmed Zayed from Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The session “Arab Joint Publishing,” led by Dr Minni Bounama and publishing specialists, explores cross-border collaboration. Additionally, “Sharjah Institute for Heritage: Awards, Programmes, and Events,” presented by Aisha Al Hassan and Aisha Ghabesh, highlights SIH’s contributions to cultural initiatives. Another session, “Documenting Egyptian Heritage: Completed Projects,” delves into initiatives aimed at preserving Egypt’s cultural legacy with speakers such as Dr Mustafa Jad and Dr Khaled Abu El Leil.



The institute is also hosting a digital workshop focused on the electronic portal for intangible cultural heritage, directed by experts like Dr Mustafa Jad and Dr Ayman Suleiman. The cultural program includes book launches emphasizing heritage and traditions, featuring works like “Arab Folk Poetry” by Dr Khaled Abu El Leil and “Traditional Foods in Celebrations and Festivals” by Dr Abdelhakim Tu’ma. These contributions honor Arab heritage and bolster Arabic literature and research.



SIH’s presence at the fair will also include networking events, collaborations, and new initiatives, reinforcing its role as a leader in cultural preservation and academic research.
