Sharjah: Sharjah today launched ‘BASE39’, the latest creative project emerging from the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SPARK). The inauguration was attended by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasmi, Chairperson of SPARK. BASE39 further cements Sharjah’s position as a capital of culture, arts, and innovation, reflecting its development philosophy of empowering talent, supporting creative industries, and building a diverse and sustainable creative economy.
According to Emirates News Agency, the project reflects a strategic expansion of SPARK’s ecosystem, as it positions itself as a multidisciplinary creative platform that brings together artists, designers, entrepreneurs, creative tech startups, and innovators across digital arts, design, media, architecture, fashion, music, and interactive arts. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi emphasized that BASE39 is an embodiment of Sharjah’s commitment to fostering environments where creativity can thrive through empowerment, collaboration, and innovation.
Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SPARK, remarked that BASE39 is an extension of Sharjah’s vision to create an interconnected environment that unites creativity and innovation. Designed as an open space, it aims to inspire youth, creatives, and entrepreneurs. As SPARK nears its tenth anniversary, Al Mahmoudi expressed pride in launching a project that underscores SPARK’s role as an incubator for bold ideas and a hub for experimenting with emerging technologies and fostering an innovative and sustainable future.
The ceremony, attended by a diverse group of artists, entrepreneurs, and leaders from cultural and media institutions, also highlighted the project’s potential to redefine creativity’s role in economic development. By opening doors for strategic partnerships involving government, private sector, and academic institutions, BASE39 aims to contribute to a more knowledge-driven and productive economic ecosystem.
During the event, Sheikha Bodour toured BASE39’s main facilities, exploring its creative spaces, studios, labs, and workshops dedicated to arts, design, and creative technologies. SPARK officials emphasized the project’s significance in enhancing Sharjah’s creative economy. The ceremony also included musical performances by students from the American University of Sharjah and a special artistic showcase in collaboration with Award Winning Emirati Artist ABRI, celebrating the emirate’s vibrant talent.
BASE39 serves as a gateway for the next generation of creatives, offering co-working spaces, design and prototyping labs, audio-visual studios, exhibition and performance areas, and fabrication labs. In collaboration with SPARK’s Sharjah Open Innovation Lab ‘SoiLab’, it also provides incubation and acceleration programs for startups. The project targets sectors such as visual arts, design, media production, architecture, creative technology, gaming, performing arts, digital innovation, cultural industries, and publishing, thereby strengthening the creative ecosystem and supporting the growth of SMEs and local and international talent.
Reflecting Sharjah’s global standing as a prominent cultural and artistic capital, BASE39 is poised to empower creative industries and integrate them with innovative and technological solutions. With world-class museums, pioneering cultural projects, and renowned literary and artistic festivals, Sharjah is transitioning into a new phase of cultural empowerment.
The launch of BASE39 coincides with SPARK’s approach to its 10th anniversary in 2026, marking a decade of substantial investment growth and strategic partnerships. With this project, SPARK enters a new phase of expansion aimed at broadening the scope of creative industries within the scientific ecosystem, attracting design houses, creative agencies, cultural and creative institutions, supporting cross-disciplinary innovation, and empowering students, graduates, and entrepreneurs to transform their creative ideas into reality, thereby reinforcing SPARK’s role as a hub for future-focused solutions.
