Sharjah Literary Agency Strengthens Arab-Latin American Publishing Ties at Rio Book Fair

Rio de Janeiro: The Sharjah Literary Agency engaged in a series of strategic meetings with prominent publishers and cultural institutions from Latin America during its participation at the 2025 Rio International Book Fair, held from June 13-22. These meetings aimed at exploring opportunities to translate Arab literature into Portuguese, expanding rights sales, and creating strategic partnerships to bolster Arab literature's presence in emerging markets.

According to Emirates News Agency, the event, recognized as Latin America's leading book industry gathering, aligned with Rio's designation as UNESCO World Book Capital, providing the Sharjah Literary Agency with a unique platform to interact with significant players in the publishing sector across the continent. Tamer Said, Director of the Sharjah Literary Agency, emphasized the importance of the participation, highlighting the genuine interest from Brazilian publishers in Arab literature. This has paved the way for expanding translation and distribution networks, introducing Arab authors to a new audience and cultural setting.

In discussions with Brazilian publishers, the Agency explored reciprocal translation mechanisms, co-publishing opportunities, and effective management of Arab authors' rights in the region. The meetings also laid the groundwork for potential future collaborations, aiming to enhance Arab creativity's footprint in South America.

This initiative aligns with Sharjah's broader strategic vision to foster cultural exchange between the Arab world and Latin America. By establishing a presence on international platforms, the Emirate seeks to facilitate direct dialogue among publishing stakeholders from both regions.

The Sharjah Literary Agency, an initiative of the Sharjah Book Authority, is committed to empowering Arab writers by providing them access to new markets and enhancing the global presence of Arab literary rights. The Agency continues to represent Arab creativity on international stages, promoting sustainable cultural and knowledge exchange between different peoples.
