Sharjah Ruler Approves New Islamic Affairs Structure and Increases Social Assistance

Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved the general organisational structure of the Department of Islamic Affairs and directed an increase in social assistance for beneficiaries of the Social Services Department to AED17,500.

According to Emirates News Agency, the approval of the general organisational structure for the Department of Islamic Affairs is part of efforts to enhance its ability to perform its duties effectively, aligning with the development of organisational frameworks and administrative foundations across government departments in Sharjah. Additionally, Sheikh Dr. Sultan has mandated that mosque imams in the emirate, previously on a stipend-based system, be transferred to the Sharjah Government payroll starting January 1st. This move includes retroactive financial compensation for their prior service under the stipend system, acknowledging their contribution to leading religious congregations.

The directive to raise social assistance to AED17,500 aims to ensure a decent standard of living for beneficiaries, with the adjustments set to be implemented from January. This initiative reflects Sheikh Dr. Sultan's commitment to improving living conditions for families in need and enhancing their quality of life.

These decisions illustrate the Ruler of Sharjah's approach to building a comprehensive social welfare system and extending support to eligible groups, demonstrating a humanitarian vision that prioritizes people's development, empowers families, and reinforces Sharjah's values of social solidarity.

Furthermore, Sheikh Dr. Sultan has instructed that the Sharjah Government Human Resources System be applied to employees of Sharjah Charity International. This will grant them the same employment benefits as government employees, including promotions and adjustments of employment status for those with higher academic qualifications.
