Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi Attends Launch of 14th Age Forum in Sharjah


Sharjah: Sheikh Dr Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office, attended the inauguration of the 14th edition of the Age Forum. This event was organized by the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) under the theme “Renewed Giving… Endless Leadership” and took place at the Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre.



According to Emirates News Agency, the opening ceremony began with the UAE national anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran. A film titled Endless Giving was screened, highlighting the role of the elderly in maintaining traditions and community values. The event also saw the launch of Senior X, a platform celebrating the contributions of senior citizens, designed to build bridges between generations and serve as a global dialogue reference.



Ahmed Nasser Al Naqbi, Executive Director of the Branch Affairs Sector at SSSD, welcomed attendees and emphasized Sharjah’s vision of empowering the elderly. He noted that Sharjah was the first Arab city to join the World Health Organisation’s Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities. Services such as free healthcare, home nursing, and transport were highlighted, along with initiatives like the Intaj Centre and Knowledge is Light.



Sheikh Dr Salem participated in a panel session titled Success Stories after Sixty, featuring Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council, who discussed his public service journey and the value of productivity. Khamis bin Salem Al Suwaidi, Advisor at the Ruler’s Office, stressed discipline and respect for the elderly.



The Chairman also recognized winners of the 4th Green Heart Award in four fields, including Aisha Abdullah Al Adhab in culture and Mariam Hilal Al Zaabi in social work. Institutions and teams were acknowledged for their contributions.



An exhibition displayed artistic and handicraft works by senior members of SSSD’s Asala Clubs, promoting creativity and community engagement among the elderly. Specialists in elderly care from various institutions attended the forum, which included discussions on positive ageing and well-being.



The event was attended by notable figures such as Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Khamis bin Salem Al Suwaidi, Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, and Mariam Majid Al Shamsi, along with senior officials and guests.
