Baghdad: Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shaibani affirmed that Syria had begun serious steps toward national recovery, based on a firm belief that Syria is for all Syrians, with no place for marginalisation or exclusion.
According to Emirates News Agency, Syria is engaging in an unprecedented experience of inclusive national dialogue that embraces diversity, guarantees representation, and preserves dignity. Al-Shaibani, speaking at the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, stated that Syria does not accept external guardianship or being used as an arena for other people's conflicts.
Al-Shaibani acknowledged the announcement by US President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on Syria, describing it as a significant step towards national recovery and reconstruction. He attributed this development to sincere Arab diplomatic efforts that have yielded tangible results.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Turkiye for their mediation efforts, which he described as occurring at a pivotal historical moment. He also extended thanks to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as all Arab nations that have supported Syria during this critical stage.
Al-Shaibani emphasized that lifting sanctions is just the beginning of a journey towards cooperation and integration of Arab efforts to achieve development, preserve Arab national security, and enhance regional stability.
He concluded by stating that Syria is working towards establishing a national parliament representing the entire Syrian spectrum and a permanent constitution that enshrines rights, safeguards sovereignty, and promotes a state of law. Any project aimed at weakening or dividing the Syrian state is categorically condemned and rejected by the Syrian state and its people.
