The Interior Ministry arrests a smuggler of antiquities in Baghdad

The Ministry of Interior announced that a Federal Police force arrested a defendant in his possession several valuable antique books in the capital, Baghdad.

The Interior Ministry stated in a statement today that “a force from the 3rd Mechanized Brigade, the Mechanized Division, a federal police supported by the intelligence effort and a detachment from the intelligence service, arrested a suspect riding a Nitra vehicle in a controlled ambush in the (Shuhada al-Sayyidiya) area. Three antique books in the Syriac language were seized in his possession.” He carries an unlicensed handgun.

The Interior Ministry explained that “the arrest was carried out according to intelligence information about the presence of an antiquities smuggler who was responsible for transporting a group of antique books and selling them.”

It indicated that "following the information, a joint security team was formed, and after collecting information and investigation, an elaborate ambush was set up for the accused and he was arrested red-handed," where he and the seized items were referred to the competent authority to complete the legal procedures against him.
