TRENDS and Egyptian Cabinet Host Symposium on AI’s Role in Development


Cairo: TRENDS Research and Advisory, in partnership with the Information and Decision Support Centre of the Egyptian Cabinet, organised a symposium titled “Between Innovation and Development Impact: The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Accelerating the Development Agenda.” The event, held in the New Administrative Capital, brought together ministers, senior officials, and experts to discuss AI’s strategic role in development.



According to Emirates News Agency, the symposium included Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Head of the UAE Government Cybersecurity Council, and Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research and Advisory, among other key figures. Speakers emphasised AI’s importance as a strategic pillar for reshaping development pathways and addressing economic and social challenges. They highlighted the need for integrating AI into national visions, legislative frameworks, and public policies focused on digital transformation.



Dr. Al Kuwaiti stressed the significance of cybersecurity in the era of AI, outlining the UAE’s national cybersecurity strategy, which includes governance, capacity building, innovation, protection, and partnerships. He emphasised the necessity of international cooperation to tackle technological challenges.



Dr. Al Ali pointed out that AI is revolutionising economies and development, offering opportunities to overcome structural challenges in various sectors. He called for governments to develop human capacities, legislative frameworks, and digital equity to harness AI’s potential.



Engineer Hassan El Khatib, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, highlighted the competitive landscape of AI, noting that countries like the UAE are leading in digital transformation. He described Egypt’s efforts in creating digital platforms to facilitate investment and trade through AI.



Dr. Osama El Gohary discussed the rapid pace of AI development and its implications for governance and development. He highlighted the importance of investment and trade policies in preparing for AI-driven transformations and enhancing competitiveness.



Ambassador Abu Bakr Hefny noted global investments in digital infrastructure and Egypt’s role in supporting African renewable energy capabilities. Dr. Abdullah Al Kaabi emphasised AI’s development impact, highlighting potential economic benefits for the Middle East and opportunities for UAE-Egypt cooperation.



Dr. Ahmed Tantawy and Engineer Tarek Shabaka discussed technological advancements and AI’s role in improving government performance and developing new products, particularly in the medical sector.



The symposium underscored AI’s transformative potential and the importance of strategic partnerships in leveraging technology for sustainable development.
