Abu dhabi: TRENDS Research and Advisory has highlighted the significant influence of contemporary media in fostering human understanding or exacerbating divisions. It emphasized the critical role of media in disseminating truth and promoting human fraternity amidst increasing polarization and misinformation.
According to Emirates News Agency, the statements were made during TRENDS' engagement, via its virtual office in Indonesia, at an international conference organized by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, in partnership with the Indonesian International Islamic University. The two-day conference, themed 'Advancing Human Fraternity Amidst Global Uncertainties: Toward a More Peaceful and Prosperous World Civilisation,' concluded recently.
TRENDS contributed to the third session of the conference, titled 'Media's Role in Bridging Divides: Combating Disinformation and Promoting Human Fraternity.' Abdulaziz Al-Marzouqi, Director of TRENDS' Global Offices Department, delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the essential role of responsible media in supporting values of tolerance and dialogue while mitigating hate speech.
The conference addressed topics such as youth empowerment, social justice, education, media responsibility, and ethical innovation. By gathering thought leaders and civil society representatives from across the globe, the conference highlighted the importance of research in tackling these critical issues.
