Dubai: Kamal bin Mohammed Al-Junaidi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), underscored the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and the UAE aimed at elevating their status in the global maritime transport sector. This collaboration focuses on coordinated efforts and support for joint initiatives in sustainability and maritime safety.
According to Emirates News Agency, Al-Junaidi made these remarks on the sidelines of the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2025, held over two days in Dubai. He stated that Saudi Arabia remains committed to supporting IMO flagship initiatives such as IMO CARES, GloNoise Partnership, Circular Letters, and GloFouling Partnerships. Additionally, the Next Wave Seafarers Project leverages Saudi vessels to train approximately 20 personnel from island and developing nations.
Since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, Al-Junaidi emphasized that the Kingdom has made the transport and logistics sector a strategic priority. This has led to the development of smart ports, enhancement of cargo handling efficiency, and the upskilling of human capital to adapt to global changes and foster sustainable growth in the maritime industry.
Al-Junaidi also highlighted that Saudi Arabia ranks first regionally and 20th globally in terms of deadweight tonnage. Saudi vessels operate under the Saudi flag in international ports, adhering to the highest safety standards. The Kingdom continues to work towards strengthening sustainable maritime transport and actively participates in international environmental initiatives.
