UAE and UN Collaborate on Sustainability and 2026 Water Conference

Abu dhabi: Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, recently met with Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, to explore ways to enhance cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations on energy, sustainability, and water-related priorities. The dialogue focused on strengthening international collaboration to support sustainable development through partnerships and innovative initiatives.

According to Emirates News Agency, the discussions emphasized the UAE's proactive efforts to foster global cooperation in sustainable development. The meeting also touched upon the preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which the UAE will co-host with the Republic of Senegal in Abu Dhabi from December 8th to 10th, 2026. This conference aims to be a pivotal platform for accelerating the implementation of sustainable water solutions, fostering partnerships, and securing financial investments to elevate water issues within the global sustainability agenda.

Balalaa expressed the UAE's dedication to collaborating closely with the UN and international partners to ensure the success of the 2026 UN Water Conference and its impactful outcomes. He highlighted the UAE's readiness to engage in global partnerships focused on water resilience, innovation, sustainable management, and practical solutions to advance collective progress. Emphasizing water's role in sustainable development, climate resilience, food security, and economic growth, Balalaa reiterated the importance of multilateral cooperation to tackle global water challenges.

The meeting underscored the robust partnership between the UAE and the UN, showcasing their shared commitment to practical, inclusive, and solutions-driven collaboration to achieve global sustainability priorities and progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 6.
