UAE Condemns Drone Attack Targeting Barakah Nuclear Plant

Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has condemned in the strongest terms the unprovoked terrorist attack targeting an electricity generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region. The attack was carried out by a drone that entered the country's territory from the western border direction. Fortunately, no injuries or impacts on radiation safety levels were reported.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) stated that these attacks represent a dangerous escalation, an unacceptable act of aggression, and a direct threat to the country's security. The Ministry highlighted that such attacks on peaceful nuclear energy facilities are a clear violation of international law, the UN charter, and principles of humanitarian law due to the severe risks they pose to civilians, the environment, and both regional and international security.

The Ministry reiterated the importance of adhering to international standards and agreements, including principles and resolutions from the International Atomic Energy Agency, which emphasize the need for protecting peaceful nuclear facilities and ensuring their safety and security against hostile acts or military threats.

The UAE asserted its stance of zero tolerance towards any threat to its security and sovereignty, affirming its right to respond to any threats in a manner that safeguards its sovereignty, national security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens and residents, in line with international law.

The Ministry further condemned the targeting of vital and civilian infrastructure as unacceptable, calling for an immediate cessation of these attacks and urging compliance with the cessation of hostilities in accordance with legal and humanitarian standards.
