Abu dhabi: The UAE Council for Fatwa has announced the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah for the year 1447 AH on Sunday, 29th Dhul Qa'dah 1447 AH, corresponding to 17th May, 2026. The council's announcement came after a thorough review of moon-sighting results and observation reports submitted by specialists, experts, and traditional moon-sighters across the UAE.
According to Emirates News Agency, the observatory network, supervised by institutions and centers specializing in space and astronomy sciences, played a crucial role in confirming the legal sighting of the crescent moon. Following this confirmation, it has been declared that Monday, 18th May, 2026, will be the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH. Consequently, Eid Al Adha is set to commence on Wednesday, 27th May, 2026, across the United Arab Emirates.
