Dubai: Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, has stressed the vital role of open, rules-based global trade in driving the growth of the green economy, by opening markets for sustainable goods and services and enabling SMEs to innovate green solutions. In a keynote speech at the 11th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) in Dubai, the minister said that international trade can accelerate smarter, more efficient, and sustainable supply chains through stronger partnerships between emerging and advanced economies, supporting the UAE’s climate neutrality goals.
According to Emirates News Agency, the summit serves as a leading global platform for officials, experts, entrepreneurs, and innovators, aiming to advance the UAE’s sustainable economy and strengthen its role in addressing urgent environmental challenges. Organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), this year’s summit was held under the theme ‘Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy,’ and focused on priority areas such as energy transition, finance, green innovation, empowering developing regions, and promoting public-private partnerships.
As the UAE continues to position itself as a global hub in the green transition, the WGES highlighted the critical collaboration and collective expertise needed to develop and implement green policies and facilitate investment into new technologies that generate and store clean energy and enhance energy efficiency worldwide. With a strong focus on innovation in trade with initiatives such as TradeTech and NextGenFDI, the UAE is strategically aligning its sustainability initiatives with international objectives, reinforcing its role as a leader in the global green agenda.
The WGES not only showcases the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development and fostering a resilient, low-carbon economy that benefits all stakeholders, but also serves as a catalyst for action, bringing together influential voices to drive forward-thinking solutions that benefit both the economy and the environment.
