ABU DHABI, The UAE and the Republic of India held the fourth session of the joint consular committee in continuation of the tireless efforts made by the two countries to enhance consular services and care for the citizens of the two countries.
The committee, which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi, was chaired by Rashid Rahma, Acting Director of the Consular Services Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India to the UAE.
Rahma conveyed the greetings of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and lauded the strong UAE-India relations in the consular field, expressing his wishes for the success of the meeting.
Rahma also highlighted the importance of cooperation in the consular field and its role in strengthening bilateral relations, praising the developments that have been achieved during the past two despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. He commended efforts by both sides to provide consular services and facilitate the movement of citizens of the two countries.
He then affirmed the UAE’s keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries to reflect the ambitions of their leaders. He added that bilateral relations have witnessed significant development since their establishment in 1972 across all fields, most notably energy, investment, trade, and scientific and technical exploration of outer space.
In turn, Ambassador Sudhir praised the leading position that the UAE enjoys at the regional and global arenas and stressed his country’s aim to enhance consular cooperation to serve the citizens of the two countries.
The meeting was attended by a number of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; UAE Embassy in New Delhi; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Justice; Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation; Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security; Abu Dhabi Health Services Company; as well as representatives of India’s Ministry of External Affairs; Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi; and the Consulate General of India in Dubai. During the meeting, participants discussed a number of common consular issues and plans for their follow-up.
