UAE Ministry of Defence Announces Withdrawal of Counterterrorism Personnel from Yemen

Abu dhabi: The UAE Ministry of Defence has issued a statement addressing the status of its Armed Forces in Yemen, in response to recent statements from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding developments in the Republic of Yemen and the role of the UAE within the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Ministry of Defence reaffirmed that the UAE has been an active participant in the Arab Coalition since 2015, supporting legitimacy in Yemen, aiding international efforts against terrorist organisations, and striving for the security and stability of the Yemeni people. The UAE has made significant sacrifices in pursuit of these goals.

The statement highlighted that the UAE Armed Forces concluded their military operations in Yemen in 2019 after fulfilling their mission objectives within agreed-upon frameworks. The only remaining UAE presence consisted of specialised personnel engaged in counterterrorism activities, in coordination with international partners.

In response to recent developments and their impact on the safety and efficacy of counterterrorism missions, the Ministry of Defence announced the voluntary withdrawal of the remaining counterterrorism personnel from Yemen. This decision was made to ensure the safety of UAE personnel and will be executed in coordination with international partners.

The Ministry emphasized that this action is part of a comprehensive reassessment of the current situation, aligning with the UAE's commitment to regional security and stability.
