Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has expressed concern over a statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, highlighting fundamental inaccuracies regarding the UAE’s role in ongoing developments in Yemen. The UAE has categorically denied any involvement in escalating tensions among Yemeni parties or exerting pressure on any Yemeni faction to conduct military operations that could compromise Saudi Arabia’s security.
According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE reaffirms its commitment to the security and stability of Saudi Arabia, emphasizing respect for the Kingdom’s sovereignty and rejecting any actions threatening regional security. The UAE values the fraternal relations with Saudi Arabia as a cornerstone of regional stability and confirms full coordination with the Kingdom.
The UAE has focused on containing tensions from the outset of developments in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah, supporting de-escalation efforts, and promoting mutual understandings to maintain security and protect civilians, in coordination with Saudi Arabia.
Addressing a statement from the Coalition Forces’ military spokesperson regarding a military operation at the Port of Mukalla, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected claims of fueling the Yemeni conflict, noting the statement was issued without consulting Coalition member states. The Ministry confirmed the shipment involved did not include weapons, with vehicles intended for UAE forces, not any Yemeni party, and had been coordinated with Saudi Arabia to remain at the port. The UAE expressed surprise over the targeting of these vehicles.
The Ministry emphasized the UAE’s presence in Yemen was at the request of Yemen’s legitimate government and within the Saudi-led Arab Coalition framework, focusing on restoring legitimacy and combating terrorism. The UAE has made sacrifices since Coalition operations began, standing in solidarity with the Yemeni people throughout various stages.
The Ministry raised questions about the handling and repercussions of these developments, urging high levels of coordination and restraint amid current security challenges posed by groups like Al Qaeda, the Houthis, and the Muslim Brotherhood. The UAE stresses the importance of responsible handling of recent developments to prevent escalation, relying on verified facts and existing coordination to preserve security, safeguard shared interests, and support the political process to resolve the Yemen crisis.
