UK Jobless Rate Reaches Highest Level in Over a Decade Outside Pandemic

London: Britain’s jobless rate edged up late last year to its highest in over a decade outside the pandemic period and wage growth slowed further, data showed on Tuesday, adding to investor bets on a UK interest rate cut next month.

According to Emirates News Agency, the unemployment rate rose to 5.2 percent in the last three months of 2025, marking the highest level since 2015, excluding the pandemic. The data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) highlighted this increase in joblessness.

The report further noted that the jobless rate had reached 5.3 percent in late 2020 and was at 5.1 percent in the three months leading up to November last year. As the employment situation continues to be scrutinized, the potential for an interest rate cut by the UK is being closely monitored by investors.
