US and Iranian Officials Eye High-Level Meeting in Switzerland Post-G7: Report

Washington: US President Donald Trump is set to engage with Middle East leaders in a series of high-stakes meetings on the sidelines of the upcoming G7 summit in France, US officials announced on Saturday. These discussions will include separate bilateral meetings with leaders from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt, as part of a broader diplomatic effort.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Trump will also conduct bilateral talks with the leaders of France and India. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly not scheduled to participate in these discussions. US officials have expressed confidence in the administration's ability to secure a robust agreement, highlighting the support from other G7 countries that have a variety of measures prepared to advance proceedings with Iran.

Notably, the US has outlined its commitment to engage in demining operations and lift the blockade as Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz without imposing tolls. The G7 summit will gather leaders from the US, France, Germany, the UK, Canada, Italy, Japan, and the EU to deliberate on critical topics such as trade relations, the supply chains of essential minerals, artificial intelligence, and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Anadolu Agency sources indicate that President Trump's agenda will focus on fostering economic growth, enhancing security, bolstering supply-chain resilience, advancing artificial intelligence, minimizing regulatory obstacles, and increasing energy production. Although a formal bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not on the agenda, there is potential for Zelenskyy to join a working session with other G7 leaders.
