More than seven million people around the world lose their lives to air pollution every year, prompting the World Health Organisation (WHO) to introduce stricter measures to combat pollutants.
The New York Times Wednesday cited the WHO as saying that deaths linked to air pollution have increased significantly in some countries around the world.
There is a need to adopt “prompt” measures to stem air pollution, the WHO said, putting air pollution risks on par with those of smoking.
