انطلق مهرجان العلا للفنون في عام ٢٠٢٢ وهو جزء من تقويم فعاليات العلا السنوي، الذي يضم مزيجًا مثيرًا من المبدعين والفنانين المحليين والإقليميين والعالميين وفناني الأداء والقيّمين وجامعي الأعمال الفنية وغيرهم.

جائزة إثراء للفنون: يكشف الفنان عبيد الصافي، الفائز بأكبر جائزة فنية على مستوى الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا (المناطق العربية)، عن عمله الفائز بعنوان “النخيل في عناق أبدي”. تعتبر هذه النسخة من الجائزة، هي الأولى التي تشهد تعاوناً بين مركز الملك عبد العزيز الثقافي العالمي (إثراء) وفنون العلا.

يقدم وادي الفن منال الضويان واحدة من أبرز الفنانين المعاصرين في المملكة العربية السعودية، في عملها التكليفي الجديد والذي ينتمي لفن الأرض، بعنوان “واحة القصص” والذي سيتم وضعه بشكل دائم ضمن المناظر الطبيعية الصحراوية الشاسعة في العلا ابتداءً من عام ٢٠٢٦.

إقامة العلا الفنية- تقدم فنون العلا معرضين لبرنامج إقامة العلا الفنية، أحدهما معرض إقامة العلا للفنون البصرية “وما تبقى لنا”، ومعرض إقامة العلا للتصميم “رَحِم خفيّة”، واللذان يؤكدان على دور العلا المتنامي كمركز للتبادل الثقافي والابتكار الفني في المنطقة.

يقدم معرض العلا 1445 مجموعة من صور الفنان حسن حجاج والذي اشتهر بقدرته على المزج بين الفن المعاصر والأزياء والهوية الثقافية.

رَمّيْ عَيّنيِ– معرض للأعمال المعاصرة مستقطبة لفترة محدودة من فنانين سعوديين جامعي الأعمال الفنية في المملكة العربية السعودية، يتم استضافته في قاعة مرايا. ويهدف المعرض، من إشراف الدكتورة عفت عبد الله الفدغ، إلى إعادة تعريف تاريخ الفن المعاصر في المملكة العربية السعودية وتوثيق قصص الفنانين ودور مقتنيي الأعمال الفنية في تطوير المشهد الفني

صحراء X العلا ٢٠٢٤ – يعود المعرض الفني الدولي المفتوح، في نسخته الثالثة ليضع الأعمال الفنية المعاصرة ذات الرؤية للفنانين السعوديين والدوليين بين الطبيعة الصحراوية الاستثنائية للعلا. يتضمن المعرض لهذا العام ١٥ عملاً تكليفياً جديداً، تحت عنوان “في وجود الغياب”.

مساحة تصميم العلا – يشهد شهر فبراير ٢٠٢٤، افتتاح مساحة تصميم العلا، ذلك الموقع الذي يعتبر مركزاً لعرض مبادرات التصميم المتنوعة في العلا والتي تسهم في رؤية العلا.

Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Announces 60 Finalists for World Series of Innovation Competition

New York, NY, Feb. 09, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2023-2024 World Series of Innovation (WSI) competition. This annual competition, presented by NFTE, Aramco, and MetLife Foundation, provides young people ages 11 to 24 with the opportunity to showcase their innovative solutions to challenges focused on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The World Series of Innovation competition showcases the incredible talent and creativity of the next generation of diverse entrepreneurs from around the world,” said Dr. J.D. LaRock, president & CEO of NFTE. “We are proud to support these future leaders as they develop innovative solutions to address the most pressing issues of our time – including the need for equity and inclusion in the face of AI advances, new transportation technologies, and education.”

A total of 5,537 participants from 77 different countries submitted their ideas for this year’s WSI challenge, which began in September 2023. The finalists were selected through a blind judging system within the NFTE community. Sixty groups were chosen to move on to the next round based on their innovative solutions to six challenge categories supported by Aramco, BMO, Citi Foundation, Ernst & Young LLP (EY US), MetLife Foundation, and Zuora.

WGS: Second Future of Education Forum explores reshaping teaching techniques, upskilling students

DUBAI: As part of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, set to take place on 12th-14th February, the second Future of Education Forum (FEF) will be held to explore reshaping learning techniques and honing student skills for the future workplace.

The forum, themed ‘The Future of Education – Education re-imagined,’ will be organised by the Ministry of Education on 14th February, bringing together a diverse group of government officials, education specialists, global experts and academics.

Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, said the FEF will explore both traditional and modern education approaches, focusing on reimagining the foundations of education at all levels. The goal is to create advanced, modern education systems that meet future needs and offer comprehensive learning experiences. This will empower students to access knowledge from diverse sources, improve their practical skills and broaden their knowledge.

Dr. Al Falasi said, “The education sector, like other sectors, is witnessin
g rapid changes driven by technological advancements and social and economic changes. Education systems must be proactive, effective and capable of equipping students with future-focused skills and knowledge. We should also enhance teaching methods to suit current and future requirements.

“That said, one of the main themes of this year’s edition of the World Governments Summit was devoted to discussing the future of education, which is the focus of FEF. The forum will host prominent global educational leaders and specialised academic experts to reimagine the future of education.”

FEF will feature seven sessions, including high-level meetings, discussions and workshops, with over 50 speakers and 300 education specialists taking part.

Education ministers and higher education leaders worldwide will join a high-level roundtable focused on redefining higher education.

Additionally, Dr. Al Falasi will have a fireside chat with Ahmed El-Ghandour, Founder of Da7ee7 (The Nerd), on the importance of edutainment in
encouraging youth to learn and the means of making sciences appealing to youth, while ensuring accuracy. The goal is to encourage youth to access trustworthy information to expand their knowledge on topics they are passionate about.

As part of FEF, the MoE is hosting global panel discussions. The first one, titled “Factory Model Schools,” will explore the importance of alternative learning approaches like vocational training and digital education in honing students’ skills. It will also address the need to improve traditional education systems, emphasising personalised learning experiences for individual student needs.

Furthermore, the session will highlight the significance of upskilling teachers to play a vital role in shaping educational models and improving outcomes.

The second session, titled ‘Classroom to Boardroom: Entrepreneurship as an Unconventional Teacher’, will explore the role of formal education in fostering entrepreneurship among students, highlight experiential learning’s value outside tra
ditional settings, and review strategies for integrating entrepreneurial experiences into formal education systems. The goal is to equip future generations with flexibility and innovative thinking to help build a better tomorrow.

During the second FEF, there will be a workshop focused on the Policy framework for AI in Education, as AI evolves from theory to practical use. This workshop will analyse policies and initiatives used by countries and educational institutions to adopt AI in education. Participants will then make recommendations to identify the most prominent risks associated with embedding AI in education.

Two sessions will also be held during the FEF in cooperation with the “Digital School”; the first is titled “Empowering Communities through Digital Learning” and the second is titled “Digital Education Roadmap in the SADC Region”.

The WGS 2024 agenda will focus on six main themes: Government Acceleration and Transformation, Artificial Intelligence and The Next Frontiers, Reimagining Development
and Future Economies, Future Societies and Education, Sustainability and The New Global Shifts, as well as Urbanisation and Global Health Priorities.

Over 200 speakers, more than 120 government delegations, and over 85 international, regional and intergovernmental organisations will participate in WGS 2024. Additionally, over 120 interactive sessions and workshops, 15 forums and more than 23 ministerial meetings and roundtables will be organised.

Abu Dhabi will host Middle East premiere of ‘Dune: Part Two’

ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi will host the Middle East premiere of Dune: Part Two, the hotly anticipated follow-up to the six time Academy Award winner Dune (2021) at a red-carpet event on the 18th February at VOX Cinemas, The Galleria, Al Maryah Island.

Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and stars Josh Brolin and Dave Bautista will walk the red carpet at the Middle East premiere and greet fans ahead of the screening.

Dune: Part Two is Villeneuve’s adaptation of the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert, picking up where Dune left off. The film continues the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he must prevent
a terrible future only he can foresee.

Set in the distant future, the film features the sweeping sand dunes of Abu Dhabi’s Liwa desert as the landscape of the iconic and important desert planet Arrakis. Scenes were captured at just under 20 locations across the Liwa desert during the winter 2022, and a team of 300 local, 250 international crew and 500 extras were used during the 27-day shoot.

Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) and Epic Films facilitated the production through various logistical
support, including providing vehicles and constructing tents and camps for costume rooms, sets, canteens, and production equipment storage.

The film also benefited from ADFC’s generous rebate, while production services were provided by Epic Films, along with support from a number of UAE production partners.

In addition to Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, film titans, including Disney, Netflix, Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures, have all produced and shot on location in Abu Dhabi. UAE mediation efforts succeed with new exchange of 200 captives of war between Russia and Ukraine

ABU DHABI: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the continuation of successful mediation by the UAE regarding the exchange of captives between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine.

The Ministry stressed that the success of the mediation, which is the third since the beginning of this year, is a reflection of the continuity, moderation and wisdom of the UAE’s relationships with countries. These relations are leveraged to find common ground for resolving regional and international challenges and disputes, contributing to the continued success of diplomatic efforts. The completion of the new mediation has led to the release of 100 Russian and 100 Ukrainian captives.

The Ministry expressed its appreciation to the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine for their cooperation and response to UAE mediation to make the exchange process a success.

The Ministry affirmed the UAE’s commitment to continuing efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in
Ukraine, stressing its consistent position in calling for diplomacy, dialogue and de-escalation, and its endeavours to support all initiatives that mitigate the humanitarian repercussions resulting from the crisis.

Notably, the UAE’s mediation in early January 2024, succeeded twice in releasing captives from Russia and Ukraine, in addition to another successful mediation in December 2022, that led to the release and exchange of two prisoners between the United States and the Russian Federation.

High-level Hispanic American officials to participate in WGS next week

ABU DHABI: High-level Hispanic American officials will participate in the upcoming 11th edition of the World Governments Summit 2024 (WGS) in Dubai.

Prominent figures, including Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz; Minister of Information and Communication Technologies of Colombia Oscar Mauricio Lizcano; Minister of Labour and Employment Promotion of Peru Daniel Maurate Romero; and the Minister of Justice of Paraguay Angel Barchini, among others, will attend.

At the summit, the governments of Hispanic America will discuss complex challenges such as poverty, migration, inequality and climate change, all of which impact economic and social development.

“Forums such as the World Governments Summit have the value of incorporating different levels of governmental and non-governmental actors that play an increasingly important role in the international scene,” Luis Alfonso de Alba, Ambassador of Mexico to the UAE, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The Ambassador, who will also participate in the summi
t, commended the UAE for hosting such crucial events and underlined the importance of international cooperation in tackling shared challenges.

He also highlighted Mexico’s priorities, mainly focusing on reducing income disparity and improving living conditions regionally.

Venezuela and Guatemala will also be represented at the summit by their respective diplomats.

WGS 2024, which will be held under the theme of “Shaping Future Governments”, is set to take place between 12th and 14th February. The event will bring together heads of state and governments, international organisations, thought leaders, and private sector representatives. The summit aims to foster international cooperation and innovation in addressing governmental challenges and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

The summit will feature six main themes and 15 forums. It will host over 23 ministerial meetings and roundtables, 85 international, regional and intergovernmental organisations, and more than 120 interactive sessions and work
shops.

The summit is set to launch around 25 strategic reports covering crucial practices and trends across key sectors. These reports encompass forums, ministerial meetings, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Additionally, the WGS 2024 will launch the Global Ministers Survey. Ministers from across the globe are invited to share their ideas on crucial global issues and collaborate in enhancing solutions together.

UAE condemns two terrorist attacks in Pakistan

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the two terrorist attacks that targeted Pakistan’s Balochistan region, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries to innocent people.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) affirmed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability in contravention of international law.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Pakistan and the families of the victims of this heinous crime, as well as its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.

ABU DHABI: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, received Ivan Faiq Jabro, Minister of Immigration and Displacement in Iraq, in his palace on Thursday.

Sheikh Nahyan extended a warm welcome to the Iraqi Minister and discussed with her regional and international issues of mutual concern. Discussions centred on enhancing the robust strategic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Iraq, aiming to advance shared interests.

In his remarks, Sheikh Nahyan underscored the UAE’s steadfast commitment to fortifying ties with nations worldwide, rooted in principles of coexistence, dialogue, peace, and human solidarity across societies and peoples. Such efforts, he stressed, are pivotal in fostering global stability and prosperity.
